Nagoya institution - hitsumabushi shrine. The place has Japanese aesthetics and the service / ambiance is much Japanese omotenashi culture.

We arrived around 3+pm but was closed for dinner preparation. Queue in the drizzling rain for an hour for dinner session. The food is fantastic, just order normal size is good enough, extra size is very filling. Sashimi is very fresh. Last must try the black sesame ice cream, very rich in flavour, yuzu sorbet give a very refreshing taste.

Absolutely the best Unagi ever. We came very early (5:30pm on a Monday) and the place was already 80% full !!! The dark sauce unagi was so delicious we repeated our order. The white sauce unagi was also very good. The grill liver was interesting. This place is a must-try when in Nagoya.

One if the best places to have unagi. The flavours improve with every step of the way, according to their method of eating and bursts in the mouth. In my past experience with unagi, it is not uncommon to be irritated by bones that are left in the eel. However, at this place, the unagi is almost boneless and I could enjoy the meal. Furthermore, the hitsumabushi comes as a huge portion and a generous amount of unagi, which is great given the amount paid.

This branch is packed with groups tour. At leadt more than 2 hours No waiting place except near the restaurant wall. Individuals should go to other branch.

Amazing!! Very delicious eel on rice!! But reservation system is very complicated. You need to book in advance. And when time comes they invite you inside. Only several time slots a day available. Very popular among Japanese

The eel on rice was great !! Expect to sit on a tatami mat, that was no problem for me and adds to the experience. The restaurant closes fairly early, so don’t make reservations too late in the evening.

The ひつまぶし (grilled eel rice) and うまき (Egg roll with eel) are delicious. Queue and book in advance [RECOMMENDED!!] before the visit to Atsuta Shrine. The ひつまぶし is nice and special that there are different ways to have it. Best eel rice EVER!!!

Nagoya famous if not the oldest original Hitsumabushi. Can become rather pricey. Sometime you might have to wait for hours outside before you can eat. Beautiful Japanese style interior.You can eat Hitsumabushi 3 ways, do not worry as all the instructions are ready for you before you eat it.Remark, do not order the extra size. As a big size male, I could not finish it.

Unagi Many Ways! The unagi(eel) is grilled to crispy exterior and soft tender interior. The slightly charred taste add a bit of tease to your taste bud. Do try their Unagi Bones and Unagi Tamago! Do note that there is an approx. 1.5 - 2.0 Hours of waiting during peak hours. Certainly worth the wait!!

Best Hitsu-Mahushi in Nagoya. The tamago eel bowl is delicious as an appetizer. The pudding with dango syrup is a perfect dessert to top off a great meal. Come early to avoid the long queue.

A must try in Nagoya! Grilled eel eating in three ways. The dish is 3600 yen which is not cheap but the experience is unique. Great service as well but do come early. They start giving out tickets at 1115 so come before 1040 then u can be the first batch to try this amazing food.

The best place to have the original “Hitsumabushi” which is baked eel on top of rice. It is a bit exoensive(around 3000 yen) but it’s worth trying. You will have to wait for 1-2 hours to get in the restaurant but the clerks move very efficiently with full of good service. Especially the old women clerk is very kind and always asks the customer if anything is missing.

Very nice ambience. Must try dish is Unangi on rice. Not the best unangi i have try but the total experience was nice. Great service. Prepare to sit on the floor as Japanese style. Wait 4 hours for queue as I didn’t make reservation in advance.

A signature restaurant that you have to try if you are in Nagoya. The line is usually long so arriving earlier usually result in shorter waiting time. They have such a distinctive and appetizing scent in the neighbourhood 😂They have lots of parking spaces own by he restaurant, so parking is not an issue at all!They offer the classic unagi don for 3600yen. You get to eat the unagi don 4 different ways. The unagi bone is a must try in my opinion. The price isn’t too cheap, but very interesting as you can’t find it anywhere else.

Came here to try the HITSUMABUSHI. The wait was about an hour but well worth it. The food was amazing, service was excellent and it was priced moderately. Definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Nagoya.

It’s the main branch of this restaurant, the decor is very traditional, takes you back in time. A lot of staff at the restaurant, service is perfect. Although the food price is above average, it is recommended to try it atleast one for a great eel/ unagi experience. They also service other fish and sashimi as well. Definitely with the price . The unagi course was best by far. Comes with a side of miso soup with some exotic seaweeds and vegetables. The main course is rice topped with chargrilled unagi in their secret sauce. The smoked flavor is amazing. Their recommended eating style is to divide the rice bowl in 4 portions/serving. First serving eat as it is, second serving to mix with green onion wasabi and dried seaweed that’s comes in the set and the third portion to eat with a dashi/fish soup poured over the rice unagi and forth portion to eat how ever you like.

Such a nice place to go and eat Japanese food in an authentic Japanese style house. The staff are great and can speak both Japanese and English to some degree if Japanese is not something you can do. Menus are in both Japanese and English version. Great food. The place can get crowded so if you want to go I recommend showing up early before opening to get a ticket.

I agree. It's about 10 minutes on foot. As we walk in the same direction, we arrive at the shop without hesitation.

Kaiseki course can be booked

You can not make a phone reservation. It was accepted at 13:50 last Saturday about 12:30, and it was an admission receptionist of 13:50.

Unlike the Kanto area, it was delicious because it had no grain and no fat and was rich in the flavor of Binchotan.

You can not make a reservation if you only eat "Himitsubushi", but you can make a reservation for a multi-course course at any time. The course also has a ticket. Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, evenings, lunchtime crowded in order, depending on the day 20 minutes to 30 minutes wait, even 1 hour. You can get it by removing the crowded time. I used to call it a coffee shop, but the main store is recommended!

I visited at noon on Saturday in August. I waited 2 hours at that time.

The head office is a better atmosphere. The main store is about to renovate the parlor to a chair. The Jingu branch is also close to Atsuta Jingu, so it's good for a walk.
